Research suggests there is long term damage from coffee. Scientists looked at blood flow to the brain during coffee consumption. They found that drinking about 2-3 daily cups of caffeinated coffee decreased brain blood flow by as much as 30%. This lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain is linked to accelerated brain aging and cognitive decline.
A recent study published in Nutritional Neuroscience (2022) looking at 17,000 participants, found that the effects of drinking coffee actually decreased total brain volume and increased odds of dementia.
